Mother found dead in police cell hours after arrest

A QUEENSLAND mother-of-two who was arrested for drug-related offences and for failing to show up to court has been found dead in her police cell.

Officers found the 44-year-old woman deceased in a cell at the Ipswich Watch House during the early hours of Saturday morning.

ABC News identified the woman on Sunday as Cindy Miller, a mother-of-two from the Brisbane suburb of Ellen Grove.

Ms Miller was arrested on Friday evening after after she failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

She had also been arrested for alleged drug-related matters.

In a statement on Sunday, Queensland Police said the 44-year-old was being held in custody “pending a court appearance on Monday morning”.

Instead, Ms Miller was found dead during a “routine cell check” around 2am, just hours after her arrest, police said.

It is not yet known how the mother-of-two died.

The Ethical Standards Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The investigation will be overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
