Detectives in the state’s Central West have commenced inquiries following the serious assault of a woman at Bathurst overnight.
A member of the public found a woman unconscious in her vehicle parked on Mugridge Lane about 10.45pm.
It’s believed the 54-year-old woman was assaulted sometime earlier that evening; she was last seen walking to her car after finishing work about 6pm.

She was taken to Bathurst Hospital before being airlifted to Westmead Hospital with serious head injuries.
Detectives from Chifley Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene, which is continuing to be forensically examined.
The woman’s car will also undergo forensic examination.
An investigation into the incident is underway and police are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity, or has information that may assist, to come forward.
