Woman hit by lightning in suburban Sydney
A WOMAN has reportedly been struck by lightning on a pedestrian crossing outside a school in suburban Sydney as a series of severe thunderstorms sweep across the area.
Reports suggest the woman – said to be a 31-year-old school teacher – was walking across Oran Park Drive at Oran Park in the city’s southwest when lightning struck her umbrella around 4pm EDT.
She’s being treated for burns – her condition unknown.
At 4.30pm, the NSW State Emergency Services had responded to over 70 calls for help, mainly around the Penrith and Mt Druitt area.
It comes after a 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by lightning at One Mile Beach, Port Stevens last week.
