Woman hit by car driven by her husband in NSW

A man appears to have accidentally run over his wife on the New South Wales mid north coast.

The accident happened at Forster before lunch on Tuesday.

It’s believed a 77-year-old man was driving a Ford Falcon sedan in a car park off Little Street.

It appears as he attempted to pick up his 81-year-old wife the vehicle accelerated, skidding on the gravel surface of the car park.

The Ford struck the woman and carried her for several metres until it slowed and she fell onto a steel concrete drain.

He immediately went to help his wife.  Paramedics were called and treated the woman at the scene before taking her to John Hunter Hospital, with serious head and arm injuries.

Police spoke to several witnesses.  The driver’s had his blood and urine tested.

The car will also undergo a mechanical inspection but the driver is yet to be interviewed.

Officers from the Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit continue with their inquiries into the cause of the incident.
