Woman hospitalised with breathing difficulties after Gold Coast unit fire

A woman’s been hospitalised with breathing difficulties, after a small unit fire in Surfers Paradise overnight.

Fire fighters were initially called to a private address along Laycock Street at 6.30pm, but couldn’t see an obvious blaze.

It’s understood a small fire had started in one of the units, but was out by the time crews arrive.

However, a woman in her 20s was found at the scene, and was suffering breathing difficulties.

Paramedics assessed her briefly before taking her to Robina Hospital in a stable condition around 7.00pm.

Fire fighters did atmospheric testing within the unit to make sure there was nothing toxic in the air, and spent around 45 minutes making the scene safe.

They left the scene around 7.20pm.
