Woman injured in violent armed robbery

POLICE are still searching for a man accused of holding an elderly woman at gunpoint and assaulting her in the carpark of a busy Gold Coast shopping centre on Tuesday afternoon.

It’s understood the 75-year-old woman was in her stationary vehicle in the Robina Town Centre carpark when she was approached by a man just after midday.

The man opened the driver’s side door and entered the vehicle, where it is believed he produced a firearm.

After striking the woman over the head, he took her handbag and left the car on-foot. He was last seen in the carpark near the intersection of Robina Town Centre Drive and Collyer Quays.

The woman suffered a head laceration and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Police are hunting a man described as being aged in his mid to late 40s, Caucasian in appearance and around 168cm tall, with a stocky build and dark hair.

He was last seen wearing a red and dark blue cap, an open short-sleeved checkered shirt, an undershirt, blue or black shorts and running shoes.
