Woman “kicked and stomped” on by wannabe handbag thief

Police are searching for a man following an attempted robbery and serious assault on a 39-year-old woman in Helensvale last week.

CCTV footage released shows the terrifying incident that occurred around 7.20am on March 16 along Town Centre Drive.

A man riding an electric scooter came up behind the Ormeau woman and allegedly grabbed her handbag.

When the woman resisted, police say she was dragged to the ground where the man repeatedly kicked and stomped her head.

The man only fled when a passing vehicle stopped to intervene.

He was last seen riding the e-scooter eastbound on Brisbane Road in Helensvale.

The woman sustained lacerations, bruising and swelling to her head, face and arms.

She was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
