Woman killed after SUV, sedan collide

A WOMAN has been killed and a man injured in a two-vehicle crash in northern New South Wales.

Police said a Volkswagen SUV and a sedan collided on the New England highway at Bendemeer, about 40km north of Tamworth, about 7.30am.

Sadly, the driver of the sedan – a woman aged in her 40s – could not be saved and died at the scene.


The man driving the Volkswagen, believed to be aged in his 60s, was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital for treatment.

Officers the Oxley Police District and the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area as the highway was expected to remain closed for several hours.
