Two lives have been shattered by a male driver who was travelling the wrong way on the Pacific Motorway on the northern Gold Coast.
The two women were in a vehicle heading south in the southbound lanes, on the M1 at Pimpama at 12.45am on Saturday, when their car collided with a vehicle coming in the opposite direction.
The female passenger suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

The female driver survived, with minor injuries, and was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
The male driver of the car that caused the accident also suffered only minor injuries.
The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the tragic crash.
