One dead after tree falls on moving car

A WOMAN has been killed and a man injured after a tree fell on their car in far north Queensland.

The tragedy happened in the state’s Tablelands region, about 80km south of Cairns, on Saturday.

Police said the couple were driving along Gillies Range Road at Gadgarra when a tree came crashing down across the road onto their car about 9.30am.


The driver, a 38-year-old woman from Bayview Heights, was crushed in the vehicle.

Sadly, police confirmed the woman could not be saved and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The front seat passenger, a 26-year-old man also from Bayview Heights, was seriously injured.

He was airlifted to Cairns Base Hospital in a stable condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
