Woman killed after moped struck by 4WD in NSW

A WOMAN is dead after the moped she was riding was struck by a 4WD in northern NSW yesterday afternoon.

The crash happened as the woman was riding towards Coutts Crossing on Armidale Road just after 4pm.

Police said a Mitsubishi Pajero towing a box trailer slammed into the Suzuki scooter around one kilometre south of the intersection of McPherson’s Crossing Road.

Paramedics tried to keep the woman alive, however she not be saved. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 54-year-old man, was uninjured and taken to Grafton Hospital for mandatory testing. Three passengers in the Mitsubishi were also uninjured.

Officers attached to Crash Investigation Unit attended and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are urged to contact local police via Crime Stoppers.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
