Woman killed, three injured in nasty crash near Canberra

A WOMAN is dead and three other people have been airlifted to hospital following a nasty crash near Canberra.

The accident happened on the Hume Highway at Yass, near Lachlan Valley Way, on Thursday afternoon.

Police said they were called to the scene around 2.15pm. They arrived to find a woman trapped in a 4WD which had rolled on the highway.

In a statement released a short time ago, police said the woman could not be saved and died at the scene.

Three other people, the male driver, and two other passengers have been airlifted to Canberra Hospital.

Their conditions are not known.

Northbound lanes have been closed to all traffic while crews examine the scene and clear the wreckage.

Diversions are in place between Bowning and Yass.

Motorists heading to Yass from Gundagai are being urged to exit the Hume Highway at Coolac and use Muttuma Road, the Olympic Highway, Murringo Road, Boorowa Road and Lachlan Valley Way to Yass.
