Woman lashes out, punches police after Nowra traffic stop

NSW: A WOMAN has been arrested and charged after she allegedly shoved a police officer and punched another following a random traffic stop on the state’s south coast.

Officers stopped a vehicle for a random drug and alcohol test on Hollaway Road in Nowra around 12.50pm on Thursday. While officers were conducting a licence check, the driver, a 24-year-old man, allegedly fled the scene.

Police attempted to search for the man, but to not avail. A 32-year-old woman was the front seat passenger of the vehicle.

Then, about 2.50pm, police attended a residence on Quiberon Street and obtained consent to search the property.

The 32-year-old woman, who police said also lives at the property, allegedly blocked the path of officers and claimed the driver was not there.

Police will allege despite repeated verbal warnings from officers, the woman refused to move. She was eventually arrested after allegedly pushing one officer in the chest and punching another.

Officers were then able to search the house where they say they found the man hiding under a bed.

Both the man and a woman were taken to Nowra Police Station where the woman was charged with hindering police, two counts of assault police and resist arrest.

The man was charged with breaching bail, unlicensed never held (third offence), hindering police, state false name and defect offences.

Both were granted bail to face Nowra Local Court on Monday.
