The 44-year-old man attended Mareeba Police Station on Sunday morning where he was arrested and charged.

He is due to front Mareeba Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

Police confirmed the man is known to the woman, although the relationship between the pair is not known.
