Woman punched in the face, kicked in stomach during violent robbery on Sundale Bridge

A young woman has been punched in the face and kicked in the stomach during a violent robbery at Southport overnight.

Police said the 23-year-old woman was walking over the Sundale Bridge around 9.20pm, when she was confronted by a woman who demanded her handbag and mobile phone.

The woman refused and was then allegedly brutally assaulted before her mobile phone and sunglasses were stolen.


Officers conducted a patrol of the area and arrested a 38-year-old woman nearby.

The woman, from Tallebudgera, has since been charged with one count of serious assault, two counts of common assault and one count of robbery.

She is due to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today.
