Swimmer rushed to hospital after nearly drowning at Qld beach
A woman is in a serious condition following a near drowning at a beach on the Sunshine Coast.
Emergency crews were called to Coolum Beach just after 7.00am on Saturday, following reports a swimmer had been pulled from the surf.
The woman, aged in her 60s, was treated on scene by paramedics before being rushed to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson confirmed she was taken in a serious but stable condition.
The incident has prompted authorities to issue a warning for swimmers to take care, with thousands of people expected to flock to the beach this weekend as a heatwave bears down on the state.
The mercury is tipped to reach 33 degrees in parts of the Gold Coast today, soaring to 35 tomorrow.
