Man charged over bus stop sexual assault

UPDATE: A man’s been charged after allegedly attacking a woman at a Southport bus stop on Thursday.

Police launched a man hunt on Thursday afternoon after a teenage girl came into the Southport Police Station to say she was sexually assaulted by a man at a nearby bus stop.

He was tracked down at another bus stop a short time later and taken into custody.


The 19 year old’s been charged with the indecent treatment of a child under the age of 16 and will front Southport Magistrates Court on September 22.

EARLIER: A woman has allegedly been sexually assaulted at a Southport bus stop.

The woman went to the Southport Police Station on Scarborough Street  just before one today – claiming she’d been assaulted just metres from the station – whilst waiting for a bus.

The man was last seen walking north on Scarborough Street.

He’s described as being of Indian appearance with a moustache and wearing a purple shirt and blue denim jeans.
