Woman sexually assaulted by armed man during terrifying break-in

A man has been charged after a woman was sexually assaulted in a terrifying home break-in in Newcastle.

Police allege that just before 3.30pm on Thursday, a 20-year-old woman was inside her bedroom at a home on Turana Parade in North Lambton, when an unknown man armed with a knife entered the room and threatened her.

The woman attempted to yell out and alert neighbours before the man allegedly grabbed her and sexually assaulted her.

The man fled the scene a short time later and the woman sought help from other residents who called police.

Following investigations, officers arrested a 20-year-old man at a nearby home on Faulkner Crescent in North Lambton just after 4pm yesterday.

The man, who is not known to the woman, was charged with four counts of aggravated sex assault-threat to inflict actual bodily harm victim with weapon and break and enter.

He was also hit with one count of robbery armed with offensive weapon, sexually touch another person without consent, and reckless wounding.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Bail Court today.
