A 65-YEAR-OLD woman is believed to have died after her car was swept away in flood waters south of the border overnight.

The Westpac Rescue helicopter spotted the woman’s car submerged in a river on the New South Wales Far North Coast on Saturday morning.

Channel Seven reports police and SES volunteers found the body of an unidentified woman near the Brunswick River at Mullumbimby.

It’s believed the woman’s car was washed away after she attempted to cross flood-waters at Main Arm around 6.30pm on Friday.

Relatives of the woman raised the alarm with Tweed Byron police on Friday night after she failed to return home after going out to feed her horses.
