UPDATE | 19yo accused of threatening woman with angle grinder in servo robbery

UPDATE @ JUNE 18 | A 19-year-old has been charged over the alleged armed robbery of a Southport servo early yesterday morning.

Police allege he entered the business along Ferry Road just after 9.30am, before putting a number of food items in his bag and trying to leave.

When the store attendant confronted him, he allegedly pulled out an angle grinder from his bag and threatened her, before getting away with the food.

The 19-year-old has now been tracked down and charged with one count each of armed robbery and stealing.

He’ll front Southport Magistrates Court today.

EARLIER @ JUNE 17, 12.00PM | An angle-grinder wielding thief is on the run after robbing a service station at Southport this morning.

The terrifying robbery happened around 9.40am at a servo on Ferry Road.

Police say the man entered the store and placed a number of food items in a bag he was carrying before the female worker saw what was going on and confronted him.

He then whipped out an angle grinder from his bag and made threats towards the worker before leaving the store with the items.

The man remains at large, with police appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Investigations are continuing.
