Woman thrown to the ground, kicked during violent attempted bag-snatch

A woman has been thrown to the ground and kicked during a violent attempted bag-snatch at Surry Hills.

Police said just before 4.30pm yesterday, the 54-year-old woman was in the front yard of a home on Little Norton Street when she was approached by a  29-year-old woman.

“It’s alleged the younger woman grabbed the other woman’s handbag and a struggle ensued, causing the older woman to fall to the ground,” police said in a statement.

“Police have been told she was then kicked in the leg after refusing to let go of her handbag and the younger woman fled the scene.”

Officers launched an investigation, and shortly after, they arrested the 29-year-old woman on Albion Street.

She was charged with assault with intent to rob and was refused bail, to appear before Central Local Court today.
