Miraculously, the children on the bus and those travelling in the car were not physically injured.

A second bus was called in to transport the other 23 children to school.

Police said the two children in the car, however, were transported to Beaudesert Hospital as a precaution.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old woman behind the wheel of the car was trapped in the wreckage for some time.

Firefighters used hydraulic equipment to cut her out of the vehicle before she was airlifted to hospital.

Police say her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
