Woman tried to snatch child off NSW street before threatening man with knife

A woman has been charged after she allegedly tried to snatch a child while wielding a knife at Newcastle yesterday.

Police say that about 11am, officers were called to Dixon Park, following reports a 33-year-old woman allegedly attempted to grab a child.

A man tried to intervene and the woman threatened him with a knife.


Officers arrived and she was tasered after continuing to threaten police.

The 33-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station before being taken to the Mater Hospital for assessment.

She was later charged with custody of knife in public place, wield knife in a public place, affray and resist officer in execution of duty.

The woman was bail refused to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
