Women attacked with chainsaw in horrifying home invasion in NSW

Two women have been attacked with a chainsaw in a horrifying home invasion in Port Macquarie overnight.

Police say the terrifying encounter occurred just before 6.00pm, when a 30-year-old man forced his way into a home on Bangoran Place, attacking the women with the saw before taking off.

Two children, a 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, were home at the time of the incident however were not injured.

The two women, aged 28 and 49, were taken to Port Macquarie Hospital with lacerations to the face, arms and hands.

A 30-year-old man has since been arrested over the attack after handing himself into Port Macquarie Police Station.

He has been charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, break and enter and commit grievous bodily harm, reckless wounding (x2), and breach apprehended violence order.
