Women behind Gold Coast bus attack in court

TWO young women accused of viciously attacking an elderly man on a Gold Coast bus earlier this year are due to be sentenced in September.

Layni Cameron, 17, and Larna Watmough, 21, are charged with serious assault and public nuisance after they allegedly assaulted 77-year-old Paul Buttigieg on a Surfside bus as he headed home from the Tweed Heads Bowls Club in February.

Footage of the incident – partly filmed by a young passenger – went viral, leading to the duo’s arrest.

The pair’s case was mentioned in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

The Bulletin reports that both girls intended to plead guilty to the charges and a lengthy plea date was set for September 17.
