Woman who struck, seriously injured teen cyclist sentenced to jail

A woman who struck a teenage cyclist at a pedestrian crossing after overtaking waiting cars will spend at least 12 months in jail.

Helen Danter was driving in Hollywell, Paradise Point in 2013, when she overtook two cars stopped at a pedestrian crossing by pulling into a parking lane.


She hit a 13-year-old girl who was riding along the crossing, leaving her with a brain injury, fractured collarbone, fractured pelvis and fractures to her ribs.

The 48-year-old was was sentenced to three years imprisonment with release on parole after serving 12 months.
