Women’s Basketball Team Announced for Rio

The Australian Opals Basketball Team are headed fro Rio in January, with a squad of 12 strong named for the upcoming test event which is set to kick off on January 15.

While the test event team will be different to that of the final team that will take to the court for the Rio Olympics, it retains much of the squad who secured bronze at last years World Championships.

The squad contains many current captains and players of the WNBL which highlights the competition’s strength.


The Opals will take to the court for the test event at the Carioca Arena at the Barra Olympic Park, which is set to be the arena where the Women’s Basketball Olympic finals will be held.

The women will play against teams from Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela.
