Young boy approached by man in ute whilst sitting at bus stop

Police have commenced inquiries after a child was approached by an unknown man on the Coffs Coast yesterday.

The 12-year-old boy was waiting at a bus stop on Middle Boambee Road, Boambee, about 7.45am (Thursday 16 July 2015), when a white ute stopped in front of him.

The male driver asked for directions before repeatedly urging the boy to approach the vehicle; however, the boy ran away and alerted his grandparents.

Police were contacted and officers from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command attended and conducted inquiries.

Detectives are appealing for public assistance in an attempt to identify and locate the man involved.

He is described as being aged in his 30s, with blue/hazel eyes, short blond hair and goatee, and was wearing a grey long-sleeved t-shirt. He was driving a white single-cab ute with a canopy, which had tinted windows.

Anyone who saw the ute, the male driver, or has information that can assist is urged to contact investigators.
