The two male drivers of the trucks were taken to hospital, one of them in a critical condition.
One of the trucks then burst into flames, destroying the vehicle.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who may have dash-cam footage to contact them.
The boy’s death takes Queensland’s holiday road toll to three following the death of two elderly pedestrians who were hit and killed after leaving a church service in Townsville on Christmas Eve.
