Investigations are underway after a young boy was accidentally shot in the face near Young, in south-west NSW.
Police said the incident happened just before 7.00pm last night, when a twelve-year-old boy was at a rural property with a group of people.
“Detectives have been told the boy and a friend were in possession of a .22 rifle which discharged and a round ricocheted into the face of the boy,” police said in a statement.

The boy was immediately driven from the property before being met by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Young Hospital.
He has since been airlifted to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead for specialist care.
A crime scene has been established and investigations into the incident are ongoing, however police have stated that they “do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances involved”.
