Young boys threatened by home intruder armed with large hook

Two young boys have been threatened by a man armed with a large hook in a terrifying break and enter in Newcastle.

Police said the frightening encounter occurred around 7.20pm last night, when a man armed with a large hook, forced his way into the Lexington Parade home.

Two boys, aged 13 and 16, were threatened by the man, however one of them managed to phone triple zero and raise the alarm.

Police said the intruder then fled the home by running across a number of rooftops before jumping into into a swimming pool where he was arrested.

The 26-year-old was taken to Newcastle City Police Station and charged with aggravated enter dwelling armed with intent, assault, carry cutting implement, drug possession, larceny and trespassing.

He is due to appear in Newcastle Local court today.
