Young couple busted with gun, drugs at Gold Coast border checkpoint

A young couple has been busted at the border checkpoint, with police finding gun and drugs in their car this week.

The 23 and 24-year-old were intercepted at the Tugun checkpoint on July 22, before police searched the vehicle.

They allegedly uncovered drugs, and a modified pump action shot gun, along with ammunition in a bag in the boot.

The pair were arrested at the scene, and have since been charged.

A 24-year-old man from Waterford is facing one count each of unlawful possession of weapons Category D/H/R weapon, offence in relation to unauthorised and prohibited explosives, bringing stolen goods into Queensland, forgery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

While a 23-year-old woman from Lismore has been charged with two counts of possessing a dangerous drug (namely amphetamine and cannabis).

They’ll both face Southport Court in August.

Police say investigations are ongoing.

Their brains got left behind, I think.
What on earth possessed them to believe they could get through with such a high police presence?? Bloody idiots.

They obviously thought they’d be waved through like everyone else….They obviously had to have been flagged or doing something wrong to have been stopped. Police presence doesnt mean much when they are just waving people through without checking anything.

Good work by the police.
Maybe they should set up random border checks permanently.
QLD police have done a great job so far intercepting guns, Drugs and cash from crossing the border.

They will go into the merrygoround legal system blame it all on childhood and drugs, signed up at a rehab programme (taking up places for genuine rehabilitation persons) avoid jail and put the fines on SPER.
Back out in the community AGAIN.
