Young driver killed in fiery crash

A MAN in his 20s has been killed in a horror crash with a truck carrying dangerous goods in country NSW.

It happened on the Sturt Highway west of Hay, in the state’s Riverina region, on Friday morning.

Police said the 26-year-old man’s ute smashed head-on with the truck, causing the heavy vehicle to explode.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but there was nothing they could do to save the driver of the ute.

The young man’s injuries were too severe and he could not be revived.

Incredibly, the 60-year-old man driving the truck escaped with only minor physical injuries.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
