Sleeping child dragged out of bed by home intruder in terrifying attempted abduction

A 12-year-old girl has had a lucky escape after she was snatched out of her bed in the middle of the night in a terrifying attempted abduction.

Police said the horrifying incident occurred around 1.00am yesterday, when a man broke into a home at Gladstone.

“It will be alleged that around 1am a man broke into a Gladstone home and dragged a sleeping girl outside,” Qld Police said in a statement.

“The girl’s screams alerted the occupants of the house with a man coming to the girl’s aid, which then caused the offender to flee.”

Miraculously, the girl escaped with only a few cuts and grazes to her arms.

Following ongoing investigations and with assistance from the police dog squad, officers arrested a 24-year-old man in the backyard of a home after a large-scale search.

He has been charged with one count each of abduction of a child under 16 years of age, assault, enter dwelling with intent, indecent treatment of a child under 16 and obstruct police.

He was denied bail to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court this morning.
