Three dogs seized after 8yo girl loses hand following attack

UPDATE: THREE dogs have been seized from a property in the NSW Hunter region after one of them bit an eight-year-old girl, who later had to have her hand amputated as a result of the attack.

The Alaskan Malamutes are being held by Lake Macquarie Council Rangers as police and council investigate.

The young girl was playing with friends when she put her hand under a fence to pat one of the dogs on Saturday afternoon.

The young girl was treated at the scene before being rushed to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

EARLIER: AN eight-year-old girl has had her hand amputated as a result of a horrifying dog attack  in Lake Macquarie on the weekend.

The attack happened at a home in the suburb of Valentine just after 3pm Saturday.

It’s believed the girl had been playing with friends when she put her hand under a fence to pat an Alaskan Malamute.

The young girl was treated at the scene before being rushed to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

An investigation into the incident is continuing.
