Young girl traumatised after being chased by man in frightening child approach

Police are appealing for public assistance after a young girl was followed by a man in Drummoyne earlier this week.

About 12.40pm on Monday 29 September 2015, a 13-year-old girl was walking west along Henley Marine Drive, near the intersection of Thompson Street.

The girl told police she saw two men sitting on a park bench. As she walked past the men, one called out to her. She ignored the man and continued walking.

The man began to follow the girl and again called out to her. The girl began to jog faster and noticed the man also began jogging behind her.

A passing motorist noticed what was happening and stopped alongside the girl to check on her welfare. The man then stopped and began walking back in the opposite direction.

Inquiries into the matter are now underway and police would like to hear from the motorist or anyone else who may have witnessed the incident.

Police would also like to speak with two men who may be able to assist with inquiries.

One man is described as being of Pacific Islander / Maori appearance, about 165cm tall with an average build and short brown coloured hair. He was wearing a dark jumper at the time.

The second man is described as being of Pacific Islander / Maori appearance with a skinny build.
