‘Homeless’ man charged over horror sex attack at Brisbane hotel

UPDATE 11:11AM | AN 18-year-old homeless man is behind bars, charged with rape and deprivation of liberty following a horrifying, random sex attack at an inner-city hotel in Brisbane over the weekend.

Police said the accused approached a 27-year-old woman on Wickham Terrace in Spring Hill around 3:30pm on Sunday. He allegedly asked the woman for money and made several sexual advances towards her.

After the woman refused his requests, the man allegedly followed her as she walked to a nearby hotel. Here, it’s alleged the man struck the woman over the head, held her down and tried to rape her.

Police said the terrified woman managed to fight the 18-year-old off whilst a member of the public called triple zero.

Police raced to the scene and, following a search of the area, arrested the accused in Wickham Park a short time later.

Paramedics were called to the scene to the treat the woman who had suffered head injuries in the attack.

The 18-year-old was taken to the local police station where he was charged with one count each of rape, assault with intent to commit rape and deprivation of liberty.

His case was heard in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

The court heard the young man was homeless and had only been in Australia for 18 months.

He’s has been remanded in custody to reappear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, 19 December.
