Driver killed after car slams into Stobie pole

A MAN in his 20s has been killed after his car was crushed in a horror crash north of Adelaide.

Police said the man’s Ford sedan left Balmoral Road and slammed into a Stobie pole at Kelbeeba, near Gawler, around 1.40am on Saturday.

The impact was so great, the concrete-reinforced steel pole wrapped around the car, crushing it.

The mangled sedan landed on its roof entangled in the twisted pole.

Sadly, SA Police confirmed the 23-year-old driver died at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours while investigators from the Major Crash Unit examined the scene.

The road has since been reopened.

The man’s death takes the State’s road toll to 31, compared with 28 at this time last year.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
