Young man killed in horror hit-and-run in Qld mining town

A 20-year-old man has been killed in a horror hit-and-run in Weipa.

It’s understood the young man was struck by an unknown vehicle on Northern Avenue, near the intersection of Annandi Avenue, around 3am today.

Despite desperate attempts by emergency crews, the man died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit and additional officers from Cairns will travel to Weipa today as investigations continue.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or people with further information about the crash to come forward.

Weipa is a mining town on the Gulf of Carpentaria coast of the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland.
