Young man shot in head in hunting accident

A YOUNG man has miraculously survived being shot in the head in central Tasmania.

The 18-year-old was out hunting with mates when one of them accidentally shot him in the head at Bothwell about 8.30am on Saturday, Tasmania Police said.

Thankfully, it was not at close range and the young man’s injury was not life-threatening.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called in to airlift the 18-year-old to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

There, the man underwent surgery to remove a pellet from his head.

He was reported to be in a stable condition on Saturday afternoon.

It was not immediately known what type of gun was involved.
