Young woman punched and kicked in shocking domestic violence incident

A man has been charged after a 19-year-old woman was punched and kicked in a horrific domestic violence related incident on the Far North Coast last night.

About 6.15pm, a man allegedly forced entry into a unit in Tweed Heads South where he brutally assaulted the young woman inside and damaged a computer.

The 23-year-old was arrested outside the property, with police also searching a parked car nearby where they discovered cannabis, cash, methylamphetamine and prescription drugs.

The man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, common assault, a number of drug offences and deal with the proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today.

Police allege the man and woman are known to each other but the man did not live at the unit.
