Young women rescued after car becomes stuck in floodwaters

Two women have been rescued after their car became stuck in floodwaters during the height of last night’s storm activity on the Gold Coast.

Severe thunderstorms lashed the city around 6.00pm, bringing down trees and cutting power to thousands of homes.

Emergency crews were called to Brendan Drive in Nerang around 6.10pm, following reports a car had become stuck in floodwaters.

Two women, aged in their 20s, were rescued.

The pair were treated at the scene by paramedics but thankfully did not need to be taken to hospital.

Sadly, Queensland’s flood death toll has risen to 12 overnight after a man’s body was found inside a car swept off a flooded crossing in the South Burnett region.
