Youth facing terror-related charge in NSW

A teenager has been charged with a terrorism related offence in New South Wales.

The Joint Counter Terrorism Team tracked down the 17-year-old after being told about several questionable social media posts.

The youth was picked up at his home at The Oaks and taken to Camden Police Station where he was charged at midnight on Tuesday.

He’s been charged with one count of Acts in preparation for, or planning, a Terrorist Act, contrary to Section 101.6 of the Commonwealth Criminal Code.

He was also charged with using a telecommunications network with intention to commit a serious offence, contrary to section 474.14 Criminal Code Cth.

The youth was refused bail and will appear at a Children’s Court on Wednesday.

Police advise there is no threat to the community. The matter is unrelated to any previous investigation carried out by the NSW JCTT.
